THE MAGIC

Indulge in the magic of the world around us from two different interpretations. One from the creativity of painting and the other realistic beauty of photography.

As John and Iris travel together and in their hometown, they are captivated and inspired by their surroundings and can express and convey these experiences to us through their painting and photography. These diverse insights create an all-encompassing vision that brings subjects alive for us, adding depth and realness.

Explore the Shearwater site, and immerse yourself in the magic of vast landscapes, seascapes, portraiture, abstracts, wildlife, and even thought-provoking photojournalism from across the world.

JOHN SPITTLE

I don’t know that I have a favourite subject, I tend to be inspired more by the light or the way the shadows fall or the atmosphere but I enjoy painting a diverse range of subjects some stemming from my childhood in the rural south of New Zealand and also including all aspects of the NZ landscape its architecture and heritage. Travelling overseas to Europe, Japan  North America and Australia  has given me the opportunity to create works from different cultures and environments. Now living in Australia my painting has changed a little to suit the conditions and atmosphere. MORE ABOUT JOHN & HIS ARTWORKS

IRIS SPITTLE

Seeing the beauty, humour or mystery in many subjects. i.e.on the 3rd floor apartment balcony, Portugal, the humour in ‘Washday Blues’. The design of the shadows on the voluptuous landscape in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The beauty of the seeded grasses contrasting with blackened dying Redwoods, California. The wonder of the Monarch butterfly in its last resting place on the startling colour-co-ordinated autumn oak leaves in New Zealand..the magnificent sunsets and nature on Bribie Island QLD Australia near where I now live.
